Plain Numbers partners with Santander
Santander UK, the high-street bank serving 14 million customers, recognises the significance of empowering its customers to understand its communications around numbers. To help them to do this, Santander UK has partnered with Plain Numbers, aiming to deliver crucial numerical information in a more accessible and impactful manner.
This three-year partnership underscores Santander's dedication to assisting customers in understanding their finances, facilitating informed decision-making, and striving towards good financial outcomes. Santander colleagues have already undergone training in the Plain Numbers Approach to become accredited Plain Numbers Practitioners. These Practitioners will now be focusing on which communications they will have Plain Numbers Certified. Certification shows that a communication incorporates the Plain Numbers Approach and has been assessed by Plain Numbers as reaching the highest possible level of clear communication of numbers.
The Plain Numbers Approach, grounded in evidence-based research, has demonstrated remarkable success across diverse industries and communication formats. Independent research showed that adopting this Approach can, on average, double the number of people who effectively understand information aimed at them.
The statistics paint a stark picture: nearly half of the UK’s working-age adult population have numeracy levels equivalent to those expected of a primary school child. Key members of Santander teams who have completed the comprehensive Plain Numbers training course will have learnt about the challenges many people face with numeracy, equipping Practitioners with the tools and strategies to craft communications in Plain Numbers. Through this collaborative effort, Santander and Plain Numbers endeavour to make communications more understandable for customers and foster empowerment towards better financial outcomes.
This partnership seamlessly aligns with the shared commitment of Santander UK and Plain Numbers to bolster individual financial well-being. By embracing the Plain Numbers Approach, Santander reaffirms its pledge to prioritise customers' needs and deliver communications tailored for those who struggle with numbers.
