We are thrilled to have been spoilt for choice when it came to excellent examples for this report. Plain Numbers was set up in 2021 when it demonstrated through randomised controlled trials that the approach can, on average, double the number of people who understand a communication.
Since then, working in partnership with industry-leading organisations across multiple sectors, we have made communications more understandable for millions of customers. It was fantastic to have an opportunity to shine a light both in the report and at the event on the impactful work our Plain Numbers Partners are doing.
Our panel speakers were Claer Barrett, Consumer Editor at the Financial Times; Julia Bonomo, Head of Customer Marketing at NewDay; Jack Stoker, Experience Lead at Direct Line Group; Sheryl Steele, Head of Payroll Experience at PayCaptain; and Ben Perkins, Director of Services & Partnerships at Plain Numbers.
We received several memorable comments and were delighted by the engaging questions and discussions sparked by the panel's speeches. One particularly resonant remark was: "Don’t let the quest for perfection be the enemy of good." Many organisations might feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of communications that need assessment through a customer understanding lens, but this shouldn't deter these organisations from making progress in this vital area.
As one of our panelists pointed out, when customers understand your communications, they feel better about them, trust your brand more, and are more likely to remain loyal.
We also delved into the various types of research used to test customer understanding of a communication. For those interested in exploring this topic further, we have previously written about it here.
